Shanghai gangster films and the politics of change: a study of Lord of the East China Sea (1993) and The Last Tycoon (2012)

Neste artigo, por meio de uma leitura textual muito aproximada, mostrarei as diferenças ideológicas entre dois filmes baseados na vida do gangster de Xangai Du Yuesheng (1888, Pudong - 1951, Hong Kong) através de uma análise formal e narrativa. Du já era uma celebridade em sua época na era republicana e ainda é uma figura controversa na Grande China. No entanto, existem apenas dois filmes baseados na vida do chefão do ópio da Confissão Francesa, a recente coprodução de Hong Kong/RPC The Last Tycoon (Da Shang Hai, Wong Jing, 2012) e as épicas duas partes Senhor do Mar da China Oriental I e II (Shang Hai huang di zhi: Sui yue feng yun e Shang Hai huang di zhi: Xiong ba tia xia, Hong Kong, Poon Man-kit 1993). Mostro como esses filmes refletem as mudanças político-econômicas de Hong Kong e da China, concentrando-se na representação da classe social e do sujeito, na representação da migração e imigração interna e no nacionalismo. Os filmes serão discutidos em relação às mudanças na indústria cinematográfica de Hong Kong, no cinema chinês e mundial e no gênero de gângsteres transnacionais, mostrando como os cinemas locais e globais afetaram esses filmes.In this paper through a very close textual reading I will show the ideological differences between two films based on the life of Shanghai gangster Du Yuesheng (1888, Pudong – 1951, Hong Kong)  through close formal and narrative analysis. Du was already a celebrity in his day in the Republican era and is still a con-troversial figure in Greater China. However, there are only two films based on the life of the French Con-cession opium kingpin, the recent Hong Kong/PRC co-production The Last Tycoon (Da Shang Hai, Wong Jing, 2012) and the epic two part Lord of the East China Sea I & II (Shang Hai huang di zhi: Sui yue feng yun & Shang Hai huang di zhi: Xiong ba tia xia, Hong Kong, Poon Man-kit 1993). I show how these films reflect HK's and China's politico-economic changes focusing on the representation of social class and the subject, depiction of internal migration and immigration, and nationalism. On the functional limits for sums of a function of partial sums

We derive a functional central limit theorem (fclt) for normalised sums of a function of the partial sums of independent and identically distributed random variables. In particular, we show, using a technique presented in Huang and Zhang (Electron. Comm. Probab. 12 (2007), 51--56), that the result from Qi (Statist. Probab. Extending the gaia methodology for the design and development of agent-based software systems

Over the past decade, agent-based computing has emerged as a new and popular paradigm for design, implementation and analysis of distributed information systems. In this paper, the participant researchers in Health Care Computing Group at University of Westminster concentrate on the agent-oriented methodology for the analysis and design of agentbased systems and identify how methodology can support both the levels of "agent structure" and of "agent society" in the agent-oriented software design and development process. The research reported here takes one leading agent-oriented methodology-Gaia, and then extended it by the creation of innovative design tools which aimed at better supporting application to real-world domains. In discussion section, agent-oriented methodology and AUML approaches are compared and evaluated in great detail; the strengths and weaknesses of the current agent-oriented methodology are explored and discussed; the importance of effectively using methodology to improve agents and their productivity potential also is emphasized. Finally, we draw conclusions from the work presented and the experience gained in this research and look into the future possible improvements on agent-oriented software engineering in the agent technology research field
